This corner we like to call Rancho Wendy. Nearby lies Pico Duarte, the highest peak in all the Caribbean Islands, Taíno caves, in which the earliest inhabitants of the island have marked the symbols of their cosmology, and Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the nation (pop. ~ 600,000) where the blend of African, Spanish, and indigenous cultures have created a distinct metropolis area, and all is surrounded by an abundance of smaller natural, historical, and cultural sites. (Don’t fall asleep…otherwise you may end up in Santo Domingo!) Hop on a motor concho to Rancho Wendy in Los Quemados (cost about 50 pesos, aprox. 12 km) (Taxi costs 200 pesos). Children are welcome!
